After speaking with Rafiki, Kion joins the rest of the Lion Guard and declares that their duty is to protect the Pride Lands. Fortunately, Kion manages to convince them to stay and fight back to protect their home. Once the Lion Guard reaches Pride Rock, Simba suggests that the team ask the aardwolves about the problem. A short-tempered Kion growls and scares Tupp off. That night, after the royal family spends some time talking with Mufasa, Kion then confides with Kiara about Rani and how he misses her, and Kiara assures him that he'll be able to go to the Tree of Life again. Kion returns to the Tree of Life where he marries Rani, officially being crowned as King of the Tree of Life with his family and friends celebrating their union as Mufasa, Janna, and Askari smile down proudly from the heavens as the Great Kings roar in celebration. During the fight, Tiifu and Zuri cower behind Dhahabu, while Raha and Starehe fiercely fight off their queen's attackers. While the Pridelanders and Jasiri and Janja's clans fights against the Outlanders, Kion and the Guard goes into the volcano. Once separated from Reirei, Goigoi frantically tries to come up with a plan. Kion uses the cliff trail to cut them off and, with Rani's help, defeats them. Makini, however, decides to stay in the Tree of Life. Kion suggests breaking the branch off the tree, to which Bupu reluctantly agrees. Kion thanks Rani for her advice and decides to follow it. Bunga assumes that Thurston is running from the Zimwi, but Thurston states that the Zimwi is nothing more than a story and explains that he had been spooked by the genets. Along the way, Bunga attempts to save Kion from tripping over a tree branch, but the branch turns out to be Ushari, who slithers away in disgust. The mongoose refers them to another animal, and he to another animal, and so on, until at last, the Lion Guard meets up with the gibbon in a cave. Beshte rushes down and lifts the rock off the gazelle's hoof, but the moment Bunga pulls him free, they both go tumbling over the edge of a steep drop.
